30 days to a new you

New year, new you.

You see it everywhere.  Does it drive you a little crazy this time of year?  People trying to make changes that they could have made a long time ago but chose to wait until New Year's to make them.

  • I want to be a better person
  • I want to help others
  • I want to exercise more

While these are great and noble resolutions, let's see about getting a little more specific.

  • I will give up alcohol for 30 days and see what the results are

Are you ok?  Do you need a moment to catch your breath?  Really, I don't want you to pass out.  Alright, now that you are back with me, what do you think about that one?  No alcohol for one month...30 days.  None. Zero. Zilch. Nada.  What would you gain from quitting for that short of a time?

Here is the challenge:

  • Take a picture of yourself, mostly your fact and post it to our Low Risk Drinking facebook page with #30daynoalcoholchallenge.
  • Weigh yourself and write it down (we don't need to see that unless you want!) and write about your general overall feelings of health.
  • Let us know it is your first day and what you hope to achieve.
  • Then, no wine, beer, liquor, wine coolers, fruity drinks, nothing.
  • About half way through weigh yourself again.  Let us know if you have lost anything!
  • At the end, post another picture with #30daynoalcoholchallenge and let us know you are done.  Write about your general feeling of health, weight loss, energy level and any other changes you may have noticed.

Still not convinced that it will make that much of a difference.  Check out this NPR article Going Dry: The Benefits of a Month Without Booze.  Read the research they site.  See how these two other bloggers did with their challenge here and here.

I am really interested in seeing your results.  Please let me know if you need any advice or encouragement.  Facebook is that best tool to contact me!
